ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic presented new challenges for scholars and government officials to predict people's evacuation decisions under a conflicting natural disaster. In this study, we examined households' evacuation and shelter intentions given the potential conflicts between the perceived risks from a hurricane and the coexisting public health crisis. We surveyed households living inside hurricane evacuation zones in Florida during the 2020 hurricane season. Data were first used to examine the evacuation and shelter intentions before and during the pandemic. We then measured respondents' hurricane and COVID-19 risk perception, respectively. The impacts of both risk perceptions on respondents' hurricane evacuation intentions were explored. We found that when people felt unsafe to stay home for a Category 2, 3, or 4 hurricane, their intended evacuation was about the same before and during the pandemic regardless of their COVID-19 risk perception. The COVID-19 risk perception, however, significantly lowered the evacuation intention for a Category 1 hurricane. It also significantly influenced evacuees' preference for nontraditional shelters such as government-contracted hotels. The results of our study have practical implications for emergency management and public health governance. Our study also provides insights into decision-making under the conflict between natural hazards and infectious diseases. (English) [ FROM AUTHOR] La pandemia del COVID-19 planteó nuevos retos a los eruditos y funcionarios gubernamentales para predecir las decisiones de evacuación de la gente sometida a un desastre natural conflictivo. En este estudio, examinamos la evacuación e intenciones de albergue de familias teniendo en cuenta potenciales conflictos entre los riesgos percibidos de un huracán y las crisis coexistentes en la salud pública. Encuestamos a las familias que residían en las zonas de evacuación por huracanes de la Florida durante la temporada de huracanes del 2020. Los datos se usaron primero para examinar las intenciones de evacuación y de refugio antes y durante la pandemia. Después, medimos la percepción del riesgo de afectaciones por huracanes y COVID-19 de los encuestados, respectivamente. Se exploraron los impactos de ambos tipos de percepciones de riesgo en las intenciones de evacuación, por encuestado. Hallamos que cuando la gente se siente insegura de permanecer en casa frente a huracanes de las categorías 2, 3 y 4, su evacuación intencionada era más o menos la misma de antes y durante la pandemia, sin importar la percepción del riesgo de COVID-19. No obstante, la percepción del riesgo de COVID-19 redujo de manera significativa la evaluación de la intención de evacuación para un huracán de categoría 1. Eso también influyó significativamente en la preferencia de los evacuados por refugios no tradicionales, como los hoteles contratados por el gobierno. Los resultados de nuestro estudio tienen implicaciones prácticas en el manejo de las emergencias y la gobernanza de la salud pública. ABSTRACT

O estudo tem como objetivo descrever os comportamentos de proteção adotados por estudantes portugue-ses do ensino superior durante a pandemia e analisar a sua relação com a percepção de risco e o papel mediador do medo face à covid-19. Participaram 335 estu-dantes com idades entre os 18 e os 29 anos (m= 21.42; dp= 2.43). Os participantes preencheram um inquérito sobre os comportamentos de proteção (i.e., preventi-vos e de evitamento), a percepção de risco e o medo face à covid-19. Os resultados demonstraram que os comportamentos preventivos mais utilizados foram a lavagem/desinfecção das mãos ao longo do dia e o uso de máscara na via pública ou espaços exteriores. Os comportamentos de evitamento mais adotados foram o de evitar locais com aglomeração e os convívios presenciais com colegas/amigos. Verificouse uma as-sociação positiva entre os comportamentos de proteção, a percepção de gravidade e o medo face à covid-19. O medo face à covid-19 foi mediador da relação entre a percepção de gravidade e os comportamentos preventivos (c' = .26, ic 95% [.11; .44]) e de evitamento (c' = .28, ic 95% [.12; .50]). Os resultados são discutidos aten-dendo ao papel da percepção de risco e do medo nas respostas comportamentais dos jovens, num contexto de pandemia, sendo apresentadas implicações práticas e sugestões para estudos futuros.


El estudio tiene como objetivo describir las conductas protectoras adoptadas por los estudiantes portugueses de educación superior durante la pandemia, y analizar su relación con la percepción de riesgo y el papel mediador del miedo al covid-19. Participaron en el estudio 335 estudiantes de entre 18 y 29 años (m = 21.42; ds = 2.43). Los participantes completaron una encuesta sobre conductas protectoras (es decir, preventivas y de evitación), percepción de riesgo y miedo al covid-19. Los resultados mostraron que las conductas preventivas más utilizadas fueron el lavado/desinfección de manos a lo largo del día y el uso de mascarilla en la vía pública o al aire libre. Los comportamientos de evitación más adoptados fueron evadir lugares con reuniones e interacciones cara a cara con compañeros/amigos. Hubo una correlación positiva entre las conductas protectoras, la percepción de seriedad y el miedo al covid-19. También se encontró que el miedo al covid-19 medió la relación entre la percepción de severidad y las conductas preventivas (c' = .26, ic 95% [.11; .44]) y de evitación (c' = .28, ic 95% [.12; .50]). Los resultados se discuten considerando el papel de la percepción del riesgo y el miedo en las respuestas conductuales de los jóvenes en un contexto pandémico, así mismo se presentan impli-caciones prácticas y sugerencias para estudios futuros.


The study aims to describe the protective behaviors adopted by Portuguese higher education students in during the and to analyze their relationship with the perception of risk and the mediating role of fear of covid-19. A total of 335 students aged be-tween 18 and 29 participated in the study (m= 21.42; sd = 2.43). Participants completed a survey on protective (i.e., preventive and avoidance) behaviors, risk perception, and fear of covid-19. The results showed that the most used preventive behaviors were hand washing/disinfection throughout the day and using masks in public streets or outdoor spaces. The most adopted avoidance behaviors were avoiding crowded places and face-to-face interactions with colleagues/friends. There was a positive correlation between pro-tective behaviors, the perception of severity, and fear of covid-19. Fear of covid-19 mediated the relation between the perception of severity and both preventive (c' = .26, ic 95% [.11; .44]) and avoidance (c' = .28, ic95% [.12; .50]) behaviors. The results are discussed considering the role of risk perception and fear in the behavioral responses of young people in a pandemic context while presenting practical implications and suggestions for future studies.

ABSTRACT

Resumen La pandemia por COVID-19 es un evento adverso y factor de riesgo para la salud integral de los adolescentes y jóvenes, asociado a trastornos de estrés, ansiedad y depresión, sin embargo, la perspectiva ecológica plantea que la percepción del evento o situación juega un papel central en la adaptación y salud mental. Por otra parte, la detección de factores de riesgo-protección es la base de una intervención efectiva. El objetivo de este estudio fue construir una medida multidimensional válida y confiable para explorar la percepción subjetiva y las respuestas psicológicas de los adolescentes y jóvenes ante la pandemia por COVID-19. Se realizó un estudio instrumental en el que participaron 727 adolescentes de 13 a 24 años (M= 18.36; DE= 2.9) de la Ciudad de México. Se elaboró la Encuesta de Percepción Juvenil del COVID-19 (EPJ COVID-19) que fue aplicada en línea. Un análisis factorial por componentes principales (n= 410) arrojó una solución de ocho factores: Miedo y preocupaciones, Indicadores de estrés, Presiones escolares, Conductas preventivas, Cambios de rutinas, Dinámica familiar, Relajación y esparcimiento, y Socialización virtual (VE = 59.07%). Un análisis factorial confirmatorio con el método de máxima verosimilitud (n= 317) corroboró un modelo de ocho factores mostrando índices aceptables de ajuste, el cual también presentó una buena consistencia interna (α total= .863). Los resultados sugieren que la EPJ COVID-19 es una medida válida y confiable que puede ser usada para valorar de manera integral la percepción y respuestas de los adolescentes y jóvenes ante la pandemia para diseñar intervenciones basadas en evidencia.


Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic is an adverse event and risk factor for the integral health of adolescents and young people, associated with stress disorders, anxiety, and depression; however, the ecological-transactional perspective supposed that the perception of the event or situation plays a central role in adaptation and mental health. Likewise, detecting risk-protective factors is the basis for effective intervention The purpose of this study was to develop a valid and reliable multidimensional measure to explore the perception and psychological responses of young people to the pandemic. An instrumental study was carried out and 727 adolescents aged 13 to 24 years (M= 18.36; SD= 2.9) from Mexico City participated. The COVID-19's Youth Perception Survey (COVID 19's YPS) was constructed which was applied online. A factor analysis using the principal components (n= 410) yielded a solution of eight factors: Fear and worries, Stress indicators, School pressures, Preventive behaviors, Changes in routine, Family dynamics, Relaxation and leisure, and Virtual socialization (EV= 59.07%). A confirmatory factor analysis using the maximum likelihood method (n= 317) corroborated an eight-factor model showing acceptable fit index, and it also shows a good internal consistency (α total= .863). These results suggest that the Survey is a valid and reliable measure that can be used to comprehensively assess adolescents and youth perception and responses to the pandemic, providing data to designing evidence-based intervention.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To identify the driving and inhibiting factors and to find a prototype of community involvement in the COVID-19 vaccine. METHOD: Data sources from PubMed database, Google Scholar, Web of Science, and ProQuest. The data were obtained based on searches using the keyword COVID-19 (n=11,.599), focusing on community acceptance (n=813), community involvement (n=86), and types of articles (n=46). Articles that meet the inclusion criteria are seven, and the data were analyzed with ATLAS Ti.9 software. RESULTS: Engagement and driving factors have the highest correlation (0.38). The drivers, perceptions of vulnerability, and inhibiting factors determine community involvement. The perception of exposure can be a supporting or inhibiting factor influenced by information reinforcement. CONCLUSIONS: Strengthening positive information can alter the sense of community vulnerability, making it a driving force for participation in the COVID-19 vaccine campaign. This finding is an appropriate strategy to expand the reach and resolve public doubts about accepting the vaccine.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The World Health Organization declared COrona VIrus Disease 19 (COVID-19) a pandemic and recommended social distancing as a preventive measure. This affected all medical-clinical treatments, including those related to the physical rehabilitation process. The objective was to describe the perceptions about the rehabilitation process due to the modifications experienced by people with motor disabilities in a rehabilitation hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Qualitative design. The sample chosen was for convenience and the data analysis was by thematic analysis, which allows to identify, analyze and report themes. The interviews were conducted with patients seen in the physiotherapy división of the hospital. INCLUSION CRITERIA: adults >18 years old, diagnosis of motor disability, undergoing physical treatment ≥1 month on an outpatient basis, with early discharge from hospitalization or hospitalization at the time of the study and signing of the informed consent. EXCLUSION CRITERIA: physical discharge for reasons other than COVID-19 and diagnosis of psychiatric illness. RESULTS: The sample consisted of 16 participants. 31.2% were female. Twelve presented various neurological alterations and 4 amputation effects. Four main themes were identified: importance of rehabilitation, treatment modifications/interruption, activities of daily living and tele-rehabilitation. CONCLUSIONS: Perceptions about the rehabilitation process and the impact on the modifications experienced in people with motor disabilities were described. We highlight the importance of tele-rehabilitation as an alternative resource.

Resumen Objetivo El presente estudio tiene por objetivo analizar las percepciones del duelo de los adultos que han perdido a un familiar durante la situación de pandemia en Lima Metropolitana. Métodos Se realizó una investigación cualitativa con un diseño de análisis temático reflexivo. Participaron 10 adultos de ambos sexos, de 23 a 54 años, que habían perdido a un familiar producto de la COVID-19 durante el periodo de pandemia, a quienes se aplicó una entrevista semiestructurada. Resultados Los resultados evidenciaron que los adultos en duelo a causa de la pérdida de un familiar en la pandemia perciben su duelo en distintos momentos. En primer lugar, perciben la imposibilidad de ver al ser querido debido a las medidas de bioseguridad que impiden acercarse a su familiar. Ello implica un momento de shock e incredulidad;luego se da la liberación de emociones reprimidas, en la que se dan los pensamientos y las emociones disfuncionales;más adelante se tiene la negociación de la carga emocional, periodo en el cual se da una reconciliación con las emociones desbocadas;a continuación, se encuentra el sentimiento de desesperanza, en el cual la persona experimenta tristeza profunda y falta de sentido de la vida;por último, se encuentra una adaptación ante la pérdida. Conclusiones Se concluye que la percepción del duelo de los adultos que perdieron a un familiar en la pandemia conforma un ciclo de percepción del duelo ajustado al contexto de pandemia. Objective The aim of this study was to analyse the perceptions of grief in adults who have lost a family member during the pandemic situation in Metropolitan Lima. Methods Qualitative research with a reflexive thematic analysis design was carried out. Ten adults of both sexes, between 23 and 54 years old, who had lost a family member as a result of COVID-19, during the pandemic period, participated in the study. A semi-structured interview was administered to them. Results The results showed that adults experiencing bereavement due to the loss of a family member in the pandemic scenario perceive their grief at different times. First, there is the impossibility of seeing their loved one due to the biosecurity measures that prevent them from being with their relative, which entails a moment of shock and disbelief;then there is the release of repressed emotions, where dysfunctional thoughts and emotions occur. Later, there is the negotiation of the emotional burden, a period in which there is a reconciliation with the unbridled emotions;followed by the feeling of hopelessness, in which the person experiences deep sadness and lack of meaning in life. Finally, there is an adaptation to the loss. Conclusions It is concluded that the perception of grief in adults who lost a family member in the pandemic forms a cycle of grief perception adjusted to the pandemic context.

ABSTRACT

Este estudio pretende analizar la percepción del profesorado de Educación Física (EF) sobre diferentes aspectos de la educación a distancia en España como consecuencia de la pandemia COVID-19. Se ha aplicado un cuestionario on-line diseñado “ad hoc” a 526 docentes de EF. Los resultados muestran diferencias significativas entre un primer periodo (13 de marzo-4 de abril) y un segundo periodo (15 de abril-final de curso). Los centros educativos se han adaptado a las nuevas circunstancias de forma positiva y los docentes se han sentido cada vez menos inseguros. La mayoría del profesorado ha utilizado una evaluación formativa. A la hora de calificar, la mayor parte se ha aproximado a lo que marca la legislación educativa (Orden EFP/365/2020), sin cumplirla exactamente, dado que no han utilizado la tercera evaluación de forma positiva para los estudiantes que sí han estado conectados. Por último, consideran que la EF debería tener un rol más importante durante el confinamiento que el que perciben que ha tenido. Parece necesario realizar más investigación sobre cómo el profesorado de EF ha abordado esta etapa tan extraña, así como generar dinámicas de formación permanente para mejorar la labor docente durante el curso 2020-21.

ABSTRACT

The way in which Physical Education (PE) is conceived has changed radically in a matter of months. This means that the professional identity of the teaching staff has had to be reconstructed and adapted to an unprecedented situation. The aim of this study is, under the theory of teaching identity and professional reconstruction, to contrast how three groups of teachers from different educational stages teach PE with COVID 19, analyzing the adaptations made in the classroom. Five university teachers, seven school teachers and eight future teachers took part. A qualitative analysis was employed, using reflective journals and discussion groups as data collection instruments. Three categories of analysis were used: a) reconfiguration of the purpose of the subject;b) reconstruction of professional identity;c) main limitations of teaching and solutions found. The results show how teachers in the three educational stages agree on the negative implications of teaching the subject with physical distance. University teachers stress the need to reconsider the aims of the subject in order to adapt to this new situation, while school teachers admit to being very limited on the content to be taught. For their part, the future teachers express great insecurity about being able to apply what they have been taught throughout their university training. It is considered essential to continue researching and reflecting on the evolution of PE teaching in the situation of COVID 19, as well as the curricular and educational role that it should continue to play. Alternate :La forma de concebir la educación física ha cambiado radicalmente en cuestión de meses. Esto hace que la identidad profesional del profesorado haya tenido que reconstruirse y adaptarse a una situación inédita. El objetivo de este estudio es, bajo la teoría de la identidad docente y la reconstrucción profesional, contrastar cómo tres grupos de profesores de diferentes etapas educativas enseñan Educación Física con la COVID 19, analizando las adaptaciones realizadas en el aula. Participaron cinco profesores universitarios, siete profesores de escuela y ocho futuros profesores. Se empleó un análisis cualitativo, utilizando diarios de reflexión y grupos de discusión como instrumentos de recogida de datos. Se utilizaron tres categorías de análisis: a) reconfiguración del propósito de la asignatura;b) reconstrucción de la identidad profesional;c) principales limitaciones de la enseñanza y soluciones encontradas. Los resultados muestran cómo los profesores de las tres etapas educativas coinciden en las implicaciones negativas de la enseñanza de la asignatura con distancia física. Los profesores universitarios destacan la necesidad de reconsiderar los objetivos de la asignatura para adaptarse a esta nueva situación, mientras que los profesores de la escuela admiten estar muy limitados en cuanto a los contenidos a impartir. Por su parte, los futuros profesores manifiestan una gran inseguridad para poder aplicar lo que se les ha enseñado a lo largo de su formación universitaria. Se considera imprescindible seguir investigando y reflexionando sobre la evolución de la enseñanza de la educación física en la situación de la COVID 19, así como el papel curricular y educativo que debe seguir desempeñando.Alternate :A forma como a Educação Física (EF) é concebida mudou radicalmente em questão de meses. Isso significa que a identidade profissional do corpo docente teve que ser reconstruída e adaptada a uma situação sem precedentes. O objetivo deste estudo é, à luz da teoria da identidade docente e da reconstrução profissional, contrastar como três turmas de professores de diferentes estágios de ensino ensinam EF com o COVID 19, analisando as adaptações feitas em sala de aula. Participaram cinco professores universitários, sete professores de escolas e oito futuros professores. Empregou-se uma análise qualitativa, tendo como instrumentos de coleta de dados diários reflexivos e grupos de discussão. Foram utilizadas t ês categorias de análise: a) reconfiguração da finalidade do sujeito;b) reconstrução da identidade profissional;c) principais limitações de ensino e soluções encontradas. Os resultados mostram como os professores das três etapas da formação concordam sobre as implicações negativas do ensino da disciplina a distância física. Os professores universitários sublinham a necessidade de reconsiderar os objetivos da disciplina para se adaptarem a esta nova situação, enquanto os professores das escolas admitem estar muito limitados quanto aos conteúdos a ensinar. Os futuros professores, por sua vez, expressam grande insegurança em poder aplicar o que lhes foi ensinado ao longo de sua formação universitária. Considera-se imprescindível continuar pesquisando e refletindo sobre a evolução do ensino de EF na situação da COVID 19, bem como o papel curricular e educacional que deve continuar a desempenhar.

Objectives: Objectives: The study's main aim is to assess the deep understanding and perception of dental practices to manage the digital facilities against coronavirus. Methods: A structured survey was assigned to all dentists practicing an online link Google form and transferred via Facebook, Viber, Telegram, and what's app official dental/medical faculty groups for 3-months from 13 February to 13 May 2020. The questionnaire examined members' awareness regarding coronavirus results, patient identification from the orofacial exhibition as a presumption control measure then understanding of dental staff to proper digital valuability. The statistical analysis was conducted utilizing simple SPSS Statistics V22.0 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA). Results: A sum of 250 participants answered the questionnaire. Overall, the awareness was beneficial with some distinct responses in control measures against quickening of outbreak ultimately. Nevertheless, coronavirus appeared extremely important and pandemic. Still, the attention toward adopting digital facilities in dental practices was critical and proportionate with overall understanding of the route of transmission, patient protections, and quality development protocols to lessen the chance of an outbreak in the dental practice area. The awareness was acceptable because of an efficiency of 60% and a validity of 45% scores to save time and cost in dropping COVID-19 outbreak. Conclusion: Best dental health care instructions rely on control measures of understanding and knowledge of dental practices workforce. Educational operations need to concentrate on those two concepts given special attention by logical activation of the digital dental workflow instead of traditional, particularly in times of crisis like coronavirus. Métodos: Se asignó una encuesta estructurada a todos los dentistas que practican un enlace en línea de Google y se transfirió a través de Facebook, Viber, Telegram y los grupos oficiales de facultades dentales / médicos de What's App durante 3 meses desde el 13 de febrero hasta el 13 de mayo de 2020. El cuestionario examinó la conciencia de los miembros con respecto a los resultados del coronavirus, la identificación del paciente de la exposición orofacial como una medida de control de presunción y luego la comprensión del personal dental para la valuación digital adecuada. El análisis estadístico se realizó utilizando SPSS Statistics V22.0 simple (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, EE.UU.). Resultados: Un total de 250 participantes respondieron el cuestionario. En general, la conciencia fue beneficiosa con algunas respuestas distintas en las medidas de control contra la aceleración del brote en última instancia. Aún así, la atención hacia la adopción de instalaciones digitales en las prácticas dentales fue crítica y proporcionada con la comprensión general de la ruta de transmisión, las protecciones del paciente y los protocolos de desarrollo de calidad para disminuir la posibilidad de un brote en el área de la práctica dental. La consciencia de que somos aceptables debido a la eficiencia del 60% y las puntuaciones de validez del 45% para ahorrar tiempo y costos en la eliminación del brote de COVID-19. ABSTRACT

Este estudo objetiva analisar questões da educação médica evidenciadas pelas medidas de distanciamento social provocadas pela pandemia do coronavírus19 associadas às percepções de professores de medicina sobre esses mesmos aspectos, em um momento prévio à eclosão da crise sanitária. Realizamos um recorte de resultados de uma pesquisa de natureza qualitativa e conduzimos a discussão com base na triangulação de dados entre observações de campo e entrevistas com professores. A pandemia reacendeu debates sobre a relevância de conteúdos, a utilização de tecnologias digitais para fins pedagógicos e o valor do trabalho colaborativo. Além disso, resgatou questões que envolvem habilidades de comunicação e a saúde de estudantes nas práticas do cuidado. Discutiremos a experiência passada articulando-a às experiências recentes e o que poderemos recolher para (re)construirmos os rumos da formação dos médicos.(AU)

This study aims to analyze medical education issues evidenced by the measures of social distancing due to the coronavirus pandemic19, associated with the perceptions of medical professors about these same aspects, in a moment prior to the outbreak of the health crisis. We focused in the results of a qualitative research and conducted a discussion based on the triangulation of data between field observations and interviews with professors. The pandemic has rekindled debates about the relevance of contents, the use of digital technologies for educational purposes and the value of collaborative work. Additionally, it provoked the emergence of issues involving communication skills and the health of students in care practices. We discuss past experiences articulating them with recent experiences and what we can collect to (re)build the direction of medical training.(AU)

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Frontline healthcare workers (F-HCWs) are at the forefront of medical care providers against the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic which has life-threatening potentials. Inadequate knowledge and incorrect attitudes among HCWs can directly influence practices and lead to delayed diagnosis, poor infection control practices, and spread of disease. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) regarding the COVID-19 pandemic among the frontline healthcare workers (F-HCWs) working at a tertiary care hospital situated in eastern Uttar Pradesh and to identify the factors significantly associated with KAP. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 260 health care providers across eastern Uttar Pradesh including Basti city during December 2020. Data was collected using a self-primed pretested questionnaire from the FHCWs working at a tertiary care hospital of eastern Uttar Pradesh. In this survey, a convenience sampling method was adopted. 12 items on knowledge, 10 items on attitude, and 5 items on practices related to COVID-19. The other variables consisted of 4 items on socio-demographic attributes, p-value and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were performed to assess the attitude and practices in relation to knowledge. RESULTS: Of the total 260 study population, 228 were interviewed online, 32 were self-administered. Knowledge and attitude of the nursing staff were highest but practice score was best for residents. Among different age groups knowledge, attitude and practices scores were highest for 35-45, 45-60 and 25-35 age groups respectively. Respondents having 5-10 years of experience had the best knowledge and the attitude score was highest for HCWs having 10-20 years' experience but the practice score was higher for HCWs having more than 20 years' work experience. Overall knowledge score of respondents having strong correlation with attitude (p<0.05) and to the practice (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: In this survey many F-HCWs reported adequate overall knowledge with a positive attitude and adopted appropriate practices. The F-HCWs with a higher level of education and more years of experience in health care facilities had better KAP towards COVID-19.
